Organizations funding participation: Funding & Grants
SeaMD was founded by Stu and Dawn Hicks after Stu was diagnosed with adult-onset Muscular Dystrophy in 2013. Rapid deterioration followed before he rebuilt footing through mindset, structure, and support.
Founded in, and operating from, Bend, Oregon, an outdoor environment known for long-term training in forgiving conditions, reinforces a core truth: environment matters.
SeaMD exists for young people with Muscular Dystrophy when options can narrow too early. On the ocean, buoyancy reduces gravity’s demand. Movement smooths. Then comes the first dive. Smiles broaden, fear gives way to focus, adrenaline carries them forward, long into the night, and into an expanded life!
The Time to Do is Now.
